Teacher Aide Programme
At the beginning of Term 2 we started our third Return to the Workforce teacher aide programme and have just employed 20 parents as Teacher Aides. We are really grateful to the Work and Income staff and the awesome Principals who have been so supportive of this initiative. The schools involved are Hillpark, Leabank, Manurewa East, Manurewa South, Randwick Park, Roscommon, Rowandale and Takanini. The opportunities offered by this project can change lives - this morning one of the new teacher aides came to see me. She was bubbling over with excitement, eyes sparkling and said "I'm loving being a teacher aide. I'm much happier and what I learn in the classroom I take home and do with my 5 year old'. |
Family Fun Night - 5 March 2013
Interschool Parent Cooking Competition
Term Three's interschool competition was the return of the cooking contest, although it was taken to a whole new level. The teams from Manurewa South, Weymouth Primary and Randwick Park not only had to design a menu and cook a meal that was healthy, on budget and yummy for a family of 5 but they were encouraged to use some of the new skills they had been shown over the term to decorate their dining table. The scores were extremely close for all the teams and the food was delicious.
Congratulations to Weymouth who get the Positive Futures Trophy this term with their olympic theme and their amazing homemade bread. |
Money Week
The very first NZ money week was held recently and so on the 5th September the Hub ran a Money Expo at Manurewa Intermediate. There was loads of information, prizes, a free sausage sizzle and tasting low cost meal ideas, on site budgeters, face painting, money related activities and a money quiz.

Floral Art
To help us prepare for the upcoming cooking competition, which includes a table setting, we learnt how to use plants locally grown to decorate our family meal table. We will never see the local plants the same again. So many ways of using containers and cheap additions to make a fabulous arrangement.
